Needle Re-Calibration

If you ever remove the speedo and/or rev counter needles (for example if you have changed your dial face) you will later need to re-calibrate them.

This guide assumes you have the dial cluster connected to the dashboard and have the clear front plastic cover and needles removed. For instructions on how to remove the cluster click here

1. Turn on the car ignition.
2. Place the speedo needle and rev counter needle slightly to the right of their needle rest pins. Be careful to put the correct needle back on the correct spindle, as the speedo needle is longer than the rev counter needle. Do not push the needle down with any force whatsoever. Just place them on so that they sit softly on the centre spindle.
3. You now need to lift both needles over the rest pins by turning the needles clockwise. Try to put a very slight amount of pressure onto the centre spindle as you rotate the needle, as we need to be also moving the centre spindle as we turn. Be careful not to put too much force onto the needle when trying to lift over the rest pin as they are very fragile.
4. Once resting on their pins you will then need to test their readouts. The rev counter can be testing by observing its idle revs if your car is already warm. The speedo should be tested by taking it out for a spin and checking the speedo reading against a Sat-Nav or similar method. Remember the needles are only resting on their spindles at this point so try to avoid any bumps.
5. If either reading is wrong, switch off the ignition, take the needle(s) off and repeat from step one until satisfied.
6. When a reading is satisfactory, press the needle down more securely onto the spindle. Do not press as far as it can go however, as this can cause the needle to stick when driving. Simply press down lightly.
7. Replace the clear plastic front cover and dashboard cowl.
