Fix Damage To Front Veilside Bumper
20/11/2006
I reversed down my drive, and as it was a cold morning having no visibility in my mirrors, I clipped the kerb at the bottom underside passenger side corner of the front bumper kit. This resulted in the damage below:
As the first picture shows, with the hole being broke clean through, there was obviously nothing for the screw to grip onto to keep the kit firmly attached to the main bodywork. To fix this, I cut an "L" shaped piece of plastic (I used an old computer tape case), drilled a hole in it, and bolted it through using a wing nut. I used a wing nut as it is very difficult to tighten a standard nut to a bolt in that location, (having to fight with the wheel arch's plastic splash-guard) so a wing nut gave me some extra grip to tighten it manually without requiring a spanner.
This is far from perfect as ultimately the hole is still open, but the "L" brace gives the kit a bit more support, and I also used rubber washers and "gripper" washers (the ones with little nicks in) for luck!

Further damage was done to the front bumper on my way to a car show in Thoresby Park. Something hit the front bumper and a chunk was taken out of the side (very near to the original damage above) and also the holes on the passenger side bolting the kit to the car frame were ripped through. To "repair" these holes, I straightened out hose clips and drilled holes through them so that more grip is placed onto the kit.
